Myopia Management

Why Choose Us

Are you concerned that there seems to be an increase to your child’s prescription at every visit and they seem to be getting more and more short-sighted?

Can anything be done once myopia starts?

Myopia management (sometimes called Myopia control) aims to slow the progression of myopia by optical and/or pharmacological intervention.

In fact, there is growing evidence to show that myopia should be managed as soon as a tendency is recognised… even before manifesting itself!

Short-sightedness (Myopia)

Myopia is on the increase with our next generation and with the advent of technology – computers, tablets and smartphones, the forecast is that half of the worlds’ population will be myopic by the year 2050!

Compare that to 20% in 2010; this rate of increase would be considered a pandemic.

What is myopia?

Myopia, or being short-sighted means that without vision correction (having spectacles, contact lenses or refractive surgery), one cannot see distant objects clearly. The higher the prescription the closer things have to be in order to see them clearly.

Why is this a concern?

It’s more than just having to wear glasses more and more for everything…

It means that as an adult, having a vision correction of some form (spectacles, contact lenses or refractive surgery), but more concerning is the exponential increase in the likelihood of having eye health conditions related to being myopic for example:

Latest Research

More recent research indicates that as Optometrists we are in a position where we are able to help control that rate of change of becoming more myopic.
